The Imitation Game is a 2014 British American Historical Drama Thriller based on the biography of legendary Mathematician Alan Turing name The Enigma written by Andrew Hodges. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the British crypt analyst Alan Turing, who helped solve the Enigma code during the Second World War and was later prosecuted for homosexuality.

Turing took the challenge of decrypting Enigma which was the German encoding system used to encode their messages during second world war. Biritish cryptanalyst had initially analyzed it was impossible to do. Germans changed the machine code on midnight of each day. there were 150 000 000 enigma settings which may take 20 million years for human beans to crack it according to the analysts.


Turing too accepted it cannot be done by human s, but he built another machine beat enigma machine. He succeed after a series of failed attempts. Yet it was kept a secret and all the German attacks were not interfered to avoid them from changing the code.


Keira Knightley plays the role of Joan Clerk who married Turing and she was also a member of the team. Later they separated due to Turing’s homosexual nature. Finally Turing committed suicide by rejecting medications for homosexuality. 50 years later queen Elizabeth granted a Royal Pardon to Alan Turing.
